IVCI Organization

The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis is dedicated to enhancing the great tradition of classical music and to heightening the cultural profile worldwide of the state of Indiana and its capital city by producing a quadrennial international violin competition, its affiliated events and educational projects.

In addition to the Competition itself, which aims to identify and promote the careers of young talented violinists, and the Competition's accompanying exhibits and presentations during the 17-day festival, the IVCI sponsors an annual chamber music series, the Laureate Series featuring prize winners of previous Competitions.

Educational activities encompass a broad range of performances and informances including the International Violinists in Schools program, student field trips to the competition, master classes and residencies for youth orchestras and at schools, the annual Orchestral Audition Workshop for Violinists, and the Juried Exhibition of Student Art, a statewide multi-disciplinary approach in visual art education.

The IVCI collaborates with many organizations presenting educational programs and performances in Indiana and around the world. Younger audiences are introduced to the Competition through our relationships with Butler University's Jordan College of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and Young Audiences of Indiana. We work together with these organizations presenting Competition Laureates in master classes, playing school concerts and giving educational demonstrations throughout central Indiana. We also provide low-cost tickets to their memberships for the Laureate Series.

Our presence in the Indianapolis cultural scene is enhanced by our Laureate's solo and chamber music collaborations with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Suzuki & Friends, Ronen Chamber Ensemble, and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on their concert series.

The 2006 IVCI Gold Medalist will join the winner of the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition of Utrecht, the Netherlands on tour. Twenty-five year old Chinese pianist Sun Yingdi was the First Prize winner at the 7th Liszt Competition in April 2005. Named the Pure Gold Tour, the prize winners will perform selections from the solo violin and solo piano repertoire as well as selections from the duo repertoire in concerts around the United States and abroad during 2007.
