Indianapolis
During the last two decades, the International Violin
Competition of Indianapolis has honored extraordinary musicians who have
significantly influenced the violin world with exhibitions, including Fritz Kreisler, Nicolo Paganini, Maud Powell, and
Jascha Heifetz. Continuing this tradition, the Violin Competition is proud to present
along with the Eiteljorg Museum Isaac Stern: An American
Superstar.
Isaac Stern is recognized as one of the most influential
violinists and musicians of the 20th century. His remarkable career spanned over 60 years as a concert violinist, recording
artist, musical activist, mentor, and cultural ambassador.
Highlights of the exhibit include Stern’s 1737 “Panette”
Guarnerius del Gesù, a bronze sculpture by Ellen Weyl-Baer, personal awards, and pictures of the many artists with whom
Stern collaborated throughout his lifetime.
The exhibit will be on display in the Eiteljorg Museum’s Dorit
Paul Gallery from August 29 through October 13. Violin Competition
ticket stubs valid for discount admission to the exhibit.
“The ‘Indianapolis’ was received
enthusiastically worldwide
because of its care and concern for the young artists.”
