Join Stephen Shipps, former student of IVCI Artistic Founder Josef Gingold and official on-air commentator for the 7th Quadrennial Competition as he gives an in-depth look at competitions from an artist and teacher's perspective. Mr. Shipps has prepared many violinists for competitions worldwide and will share with you "behind the scenes" stories from the preparation stages to the meaning of winning. Radio and web listeners will be able to hear his live broadcasts daily during the Competition at www.violin.org as well as on WFYI 90.1 FM.

Mimi Zweig is Director of the IU String Academy and leads master classes and pedagogy workshops across the United States and in Europe. She has recently produced StringPedagogy.com, an innovative web-based teaching tool. Her students have won numerous competitions and teach and perform worldwide.

The Mastery of Music, Ten Pathways to True Artistry

Barry Green, former principal bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony and renowned author of The Inner Game of Music will discuss his new book due out in April 2003. This book analyzes the final step in making the difference between being a good musician and a great artist. The ten pathways described in Mr. Green’s book include communication, courage, discipline, fun, passion, tolerance, concentration, confidence, humility, and creativity. The session will include recorded excerpts from interviews with such artists as Bobby McFerrin, Frederica von Stade, Dave Brubeck, Joshua Bell, Dale Clevenger, and Doc Severinsen sharing insights about how these skills enhance their ability to communicate as artists

Remembering Isaac Stern

On September 23, 2001, the world lost one of its most prominent artists, musical activists, and mentors, Isaac Stern. Considered to be one of the most powerful violinists of the 20th century, Isaac Stern was equally noted for his extensive discography of over 100 recordings, worldwide concert tours, mentorship to thousands of musicians and his activism which led to the saving of Carnegie Hall. Violinists Jaime Laredo and Cho-Liang Lin, cellist Sharon Robinson, and conductor Michael Stern, son of Isaac Stern, will discuss their lives as impacted by his legendary musicianship and humanity.
